Quickstart: connect an agent

Connect your AI assistant or your own agent to Varis and call your first paid service in under three minutes.

In this quickstart, you connect an agent to Varis and call a service. When you finish, your agent can find services and pay for them from your Varis balance.

Before you begin

Create a Varis account. You don't need to top up to finish this quickstart: your first paid call earns a $2 free credit, as long as the call costs $2 or less.

Connect your agent

Choose the kind of agent you run.

Use this tab for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other assistants that support MCP.

  1. In your assistant, add a custom connector or MCP server with this URL:

    https://api.usevaris.com/v1/mcp

In a coding agent, add it from the command line or its settings:

claude mcp add --transport http varis https://api.usevaris.com/v1/mcp
  2. When your browser opens, sign in to Varis.

  3. Set the spend limits for this assistant, and then click Allow.

  4. Ask your assistant to use Varis. For example:

Use Varis to convert 100 US dollars to euros.

Your assistant searches Varis for a matching service and calls it. On your first paid call, Varis adds a $2 free credit and asks the assistant to retry, and the retry pays for the call from that credit.

You pay only when a service returns a valid response. If the service fails or times out, Varis refunds the caller.

About spend limits

Leaving the limits blank would enable Carte Blanche for the agent, allowing it to spend on services without restrain.

Setting the limits to 0 restricts your agent to find and use only free services.

To see the services you've used and what they cost, go to Transactions in the dashboard.
