Update a service

Change a published service's details, price, schemas, or endpoint, and disable or re-enable it.

You can change any field of a published service except its slug. Your changes apply to the next call that an agent makes.

Update your service

  1. In the dashboard, go to Services.
  2. Click the service you want to change.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Change the fields you want.
  5. Click Save changes.

Publishing replaces the whole service

When you run varis publish, Varis sets every field of the service to what's in your define call. A field you remove from define goes back to its default, or is removed from the service. For example:

  • If you remove instructions, the service no longer has instructions.
  • If you remove method: "POST", the method goes back to GET.
  • If you remove price_cents, the service becomes free.

Check your define call before you publish, so that you don't reset a field by mistake.

Change the slug

You can't change a slug. If you publish with a new slug, Varis creates a second service and leaves the first one as it was.

To move to a new slug, publish the service under the new slug, and then disable the old service.

Change the schemas or method

Agents read your input schema to build each call, so a change to the input schema or method changes what your endpoint receives. Deploy the endpoint that handles the new input before you publish the change.

A change to the output schema applies straight away. If your endpoint returns the old shape after you publish, Varis treats each call as failed and the agent isn't charged.

Disable or re-enable a service

When you disable a service, agents can't find or call it. Calls already in progress finish.

  1. In Services, click the service.
  2. Click Disable, and then confirm.

To re-enable it, open the service and click Re-enable.

If you disable a service in the dashboard and then run varis publish without status: "disabled", the CLI publishes the service again. Keep the dashboard and your code in agreement.
