varis login and varis logout
Sign your machine in to Varis so that the CLI can publish for you.
The CLI publishes as you. Before it can publish, you sign your machine in to Varis once.
You rarely need to run varis login yourself. varis init and varis publish run it for you when your machine isn't signed in.
-
Run:
varis login -
The CLI prints a link and a short code, and opens the link in your browser.
-
In your browser, sign in to Varis, check that the code matches, and approve it.
The CLI confirms that your machine is signed in.
The code expires after 10 minutes. If it expires, run varis login again.
Sign in over SSH or in a cloud editor
If you work over SSH or in a cloud editor such as Replit or Codespaces, the CLI can't open a browser on your machine. Open the printed link in any regular browser.
To print the link without trying to open a browser, run:
varis login --no-browserHow your sign-in works
- One sign-in covers every project on the machine.
- Signing in again replaces the machine's previous sign-in.
- Your sign-in credentials are long-lived. If your credentials are compromised or expired, by any chance, the CLI will prompt you to sign in again.
Your CLI session can publish and update services. It can't call services or spend your balance.
A little joke for you
Your sign-in credential is stored on your machine, buried somewhere inside the Greywater Watch. It's never included in any of your projects. You shouldn't try to find it. Only the CLI can Reed it.
Sign out
To sign this machine out, run:
varis logoutThe CLI revokes the machine's sign-in on Varis and deletes it from your machine. Other machines stay signed in.
If Varis can't be reached for any reason, the CLI still deletes the sign-in from your machine. It stays valid on Varis until it expires or you revoke it from the dashboard.
Sign out another machine
If you lose a laptop or stop using a machine, sign it out from the dashboard:
- In the dashboard, open Settings from your profile.
- Go to Devices.
- Find the machine and revoke it.
Limits on sign-ins
You can start up to 10 sign-ins every 10 minutes from one IP address. If you go over, the CLI tells you how long to wait. Teams that share an office network share this limit.
